PROVIDE A PLACE TO SERVE AND GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

We believe that every individual has the capacity to help make a difference by giving back and serving their community.

INVEST IN CHILDREN AND ADULTS TO GROW AND LEARN

Our goal is to equip and grow every individual in the communities we serve through our unique programs and resources.

DEVELOP LEADERS FOR TODAY AS WELL AS TOMORROW

We seek to not only develop strong and influential leaders for today, but also invest in the younger generation to raise up leaders for the future.

OUR STORY

the epicenter at edgewood >

Mountain Christian Church made an intentional investment in the Edgewood community in 2004, leading to many strong relationships and a deep desire to see the community flourish. In 2013, Mountain rallied several local partners and the members of its church to launch a community center right in the heart of Edgewood. For 10 years now, The EPICENTER at Edgewood, it’s own 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has been a hub of programs, resources, and hope for the community. But the story continues…

A SECOND LOCATION…

the epicenter at aberdeen >

The middle of the pandemic of 2020, we began opening the doors to our second location in Aberdeen. Right next to Ollie’s, we partnered with Mountain Christian Church once again to create a beautiful space for the community of Aberdeen. Similar to Edgewood, but tweaked to fit the Aberdeen community, we host chilcare, summer camp, blood drives, food giveaways, and much more. Since our official Grand Opening on June 19th 2021, we continue to find ways to strengthen our community here in Aberdeen and Edgewood.

AND NOW A THRIFT STORE TOO…

TABITHA’S HOUSE >

As a strategic way to expand impact, The EPICENTER merged with Tabitha’s House, a nonprofit thrift store that had been in Fallston for 25 years. Tabitha’s House has a proud history and reputation for serving the community and is deeply engaged with many of the families that we serve, many of whom live in the Rt 40 area. This partnership and integration into the good work that Tabitha’s House is doing makes us even more effective in our mission to empower people, strengthen families, and build a sense of community and trust.

LOCATIONS

We started in Edgewood, opened a second center in Aberdeen in 2020, and then linked arms with Tabitha’s House in Fallston in 2022 which led to another location in Edgewood in 2023.

A place for kids and adults to grow and learn.

Serve and give back.

Developing leaders for today as well as tomorrow.

“I love that they hold job fairs, as well as after school activities! It’s great for the community.”

Britny Jennings

Edgewood is a strong and diverse community. While it experiences very real social problems such as homelessness, poverty, unemployment and career issues, Edgewood is also home to very good and caring persons who constantly demonstrate their love and commitment to this community.”

OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH MOUNTAIN

People often walk into The EPICENTER and wonder, “Is this place a church or a community center?” Well really, it’s both. The facility itself is a community center that is open throughout the week for various programs. But it also serves as the host for the Edgewood and Aberdeen Campus of Mountain Christian Church for Sunday morning worship services and other group meetings and events for children, students, and adults.

Is The EPICENTER part of Mountain Christian Church?
The EPICENTER and Mountain Christian Church are two separate entities that partner together for the good of a community that we all care about. It is fair to say that Mountain “gave birth to” The EPICENTER and provides ongoing support to The EPICENTER through both people and financial resources. The EPICENTER supports the life of the Mountain church community by hosting church events and serving as a “home base” for Mountain’s Edgewood and Aberdeen Campuses.  Both Mountain and EPICENTER staff both occupy the building, working side by side to serve the community.

Why the Two Separate Entities?  Isn’t that just confusing?
When Mountain wanted to invest in the Edgewood and Aberdeen communities by opening The EPICENTER, the goal was to create a place for people of all different churches & backgrounds to find a place to belong, serve, and give back.  The church also wanted to leverage opportunities for grants and other types of support that are often available to community centers but not available to churches.
